Nightfall In Camp
Before the life of Pablo's Eye the legendary dream pop band of the nineties there was Nightfall In Camp a band from Brussels formed in 1984 by Pablo's Eye's Axel Libeert and Marie Mandi with their friend Ludwig Lapauw.
A self-titled one-off mini-album was released on the Belgian label Soundworks in 1985. The album was composed, recorded and produced by N.I.C. at Celsius Blanco Studio, Brussels.

Press Release from Music From Memory
"Very happy to finally announce we're back with another compilation for 2018 and one that’s been a long time in the pipeline! “Uneven Paths: Deviant Pop From Europe, 1980-1991” is a 2 x LP & 2 x CD compiled by record connoisseur Raphael Top-Secret & label man Jamie Tiller that brings together twenty tracks from across the continent; exploring the more unusual and unexpected sides of pop music produced during that period. Drawing material from cult experimental artists alongside one-off independent musical projects rescued from the fringes, ’Uneven Paths’ focuses on a selection of tracks that go beyond the confines of mainstream pop music but which also transcend expectations of much of the ’experimental’ music of the time. This is music with one foot in the avant-garde and another foot firmly rooted within the sensibilities of Pop; where Jazz musicians detour into Synth-Pop, Punk bands break into Boogie jams, and student doctors jam out on odd melodies with synthesizers and drum machines during their night shifts. To kick things off here’s a previously unreleased video of one of the tracks featured on the compilation by the Belgian band ‘Nightfall In Camp’ with the track ‘Cada Día’ from 1985." ** Landing March 2018 **
' Raphael Top-Secret and myself have been putting in some serious legwork for the second multi artist compilation on Music From Memory; "Uneven Paths: Deviant Pop From Europe, 1980-1991" so super happy we can finally announce it! Been in contact with lots of amazing artists, some of whom seemed to have disappeared off the face of the planet or in some cases never even existed in the first place!
So when this amazing unreleased video came through from Belgian band 'Nightfall In Camp', it felt like a good sign if ever there was one! ' Jamie Tiller

"Cada Día was recorded in 1984 during a warm Indian summer night in Brussels in a small derelict apartment just around the corner from the beautiful Grand Place. Ludwig and I had already been working on some instrumental tracks and tried some singing but we were not really getting what we wanted. On top of that we were struggling to synchronize our machinery properly. In desperation, we decided to play everything by hand, even the drum computer. A few days earlier we had met Marie whom we invited to our place and in the most spontaneous manner we recorded her voice. Nothing was prepared, she just talked about everyday life: Cada Día. Something magical happened that night, everything interlocked in a magnificent and mysterious way. The result embodied perfectly the love and friendship we felt at that particular moment." Something unique we will always cherish." Axel Libeert
REVIEWS:
"Chance personal encounters and happy accidents abound... Belgian new-wave group Nightfall in Camp met vocalist Marie Mandi right before recording at their flat, inviting her to purr lines about her daily routine for the ethereal “Cada Dia.”

"The set opens with three pieces of spoken word and accompaniment that each take a different tone with that template. Nightfall in Camp’s atmospheric “Cada Dia” (“Every Day”), from 1984, features husky-voiced Marie Mandi’s improvised musings on her life backed by heavily reverbed drums and spare keyboards and woodwinds, with stranger, distant timbres adding a dissonant tension that doesn’t overwhelm the simple, enchanting rhythm and melody."

"Much of the music here is understated... On Nightfall In Camp's "Cada Día," Marie Mandi's voice drifts from the stripped-back arrangement like smoke from a cigarette." Aaron Coultate, Soundtoys - You can read full review here
"Stellar picks from the MFM camp; 21 obscure, outward-looking and disco-leaning peaches plucked from Europe 1980-91, including big highlights such as Nightfall In Camp’s sultry smudge of computer tones and Lena Platonos-like vocals in ‘Cada Día’. "
